Our mini-vacation this winter was spent in Singapore!!! We used our air miles and flew for free... again... third year in a row... beyond cool... we love accumulating and spending miles!!!
We did a lot of research ahead of time and quickly realized we did NOT have enough time (3 days) to do everything we wanted. So, we decided to stick to the city itself and focus on a few super grand things along side TONS and TONS and TONS of good food! This chick was definitely NOT Pescatarian on the trip (and paid for it royally if you know what I mean). But, it was WORTH it. Bacon and burgers have never tasted so good - absence definitely does make the heart grow fonder!

We were STARVING when we arrived in Singapore, so we snagged a cab right away and he took us to our boutique hotel right in the middle of the Arab district. Needless to say, our first meal in Singapore was comprised of SHAWARMAS! They were so good, I can't even begin to describe it!! |
So, y'all know I love Mango juice, right? Well, Minute Maid has it DOWN with this beverage!! |
Pretty dag-gone content... we almost ordered two more after we ate the first ones SO fast. But, it was pretty late at this point and we had a BIG day ahead of us! |
Walking back to our hotel, we saw this beautiful mosque. |
Couldn't help myself, LOL! |
Of course we did our Diller thing where we walk EVERYWHERE, We definitely averaged at least 8 to 10 miles a day on foot. It was good for us and kept us hungry for all the food we ate.... killed our calves though. |
This city is FOR REAL. Keepin' it clean, yo! |
This is a famous tour company - you begin on the street but wind up floating down the river! Hilarious! |
We walked to the Harbor area which included the Gardens by the Bay. They. Were. Stunning. And so modern! These "trees" were made to self-sustain the gardens (they collect water and solar power) and those are live vines growing up the sides. In the background is the super ritzy Marine Bay Sands Hotel topped by their Skypark that includes gardens, restaurants, and an infinity pool! It cost $23/person just to take the elevator to the top! |
Takin' a water buffalo ride... |
Weirdest sculpture EVER. But, scientifically interesting. It weighs several tons but balances on the back of one giant, white baby hand... |
This city is SO CLEAN... |
...and breathtakingly beautiful! |
Singapore was celebrating its 50th year as a Republic! |
If we weren't old fogies, we may have checked this place out, LOL. |
Hit up a place called "Bergs" for lunch. Guess what they served?! |
SCRUMPTIOUS-NESS! |
That evening, while waiting to catch a bus to the zoo, we headed over to Little India to check out the sites. |
We heard we HAD to try Singapore's fish head curry, so we stopped at a Mom and Pop shop to try it. Here are the sides that accompanied the soup. |
Anthony Bourdain promised it was delicious, and it did NOT disappoint! It truly was a fish head (brain, eye balls and all) in a fantastic-ly spiced curry! |
One of the more unique things to do in Singapore is take the Night Safari. Basically, you experience the zoo at night so you can see the animals in all of their nocturnal glory! It was AMAZING! |
None of my pictures came out well (go figure) but here is one that kinda gives you a sense for the coolness. The lions were out and about doing their thing as we went waltzing by... there's a trolley tour that you start on followed by loads of walking paths. It was a super awesome, once in a lifetime experience for sure! |
Hilarious! |
Stay tuned for more Singapore in part 2...
