Nago Pineapple Winery and Aquarium

Joel and I rented a car and went to Nago to visit the Pineapple Winery and the famous Okinawan Aquarium. The Winery was really cute - you get to take a tour Jurassic Park style in little cars (basically golf carts) that drive on their own along the path. They had an English version of the presentation that they play while your riding so we learned quite a bit about pineapples and how many gosh darn types there are, who knew?

This is the front of the winery. Cute eh?

They had a bunch of these pineapple people pictures, ha ha!

The path our cart followed through the pineapple plants.

If only there had been dinosaurs too!

Most of the path was outdoors but part of the tour took us through a huge greenhouse. The weather in Okinawa is balmy and warm year-round so it's perfect for the plants but guess some need the extra protection from typhoons in the greenhouse.
See the tiny pineapples? Aren't the adorable? It's hard to take pictures from a moving vehicle so sorry it's not the best. :-p

At the end of the driving tour, you snake down some tunnels to the winery itself. We didn't take pictures of the wines (sorry!) but we were able to taste several. Not the best, I'm not going to lie. Adding pineapple to red wine still doesn't quite compute in my brain, LOL. But it was creative and unique and we were able to taste the freshest, most delicious pineapple ever!!!

Now on to the Aquarium!

Okinawa is famous for this place as they have managed to successfully keep three whale sharks alive and kicking in their tanks.

There was a lot of shrubbery art on our walk to the aquarium

There was some rock art as well

View from the aquarium steps... down below were where they kept the turtles, manatees, and dolphins

There were SO many people, I couldn't see what was happening, but Joel held the camera above the crowds and got this shot so now we know what everyone was checking out

Stopped at the aquarium cafe for a quick snack... Chicken sandwich...

...and rice porridge... yummy!

The whale sharks!! They're GINORMOUS!

This crazy structure is the aquarium itself

One of the views on our mile walk back to the car...lovely
Still more of Okinawa to come! This part of Japan is AWESOME!
